The fastest way to get a moving quote is to text photos of what's moving. Good photos also make the quote more accurate, because the things that change how long a move takes are usually visible in a picture.
Room by room
Take one wide photo of each room from the doorway, so we can see everything in it. Then add:
- Bedrooms: the bed, dressers, and an open closet
- Living room: couches, shelving, TVs and large decor
- Kitchen: open cabinets and the pantry, if you want packing
- Garage, patio and sheds: tools, bikes, gym equipment, outdoor furniture
- Anything large, fragile or valuable: pianos, safes, art, mirrors, glass tables
The path matters as much as the stuff
Two homes with the same furniture can take very different amounts of time to move. Photograph:
- Stairs, and how many flights
- The walk from your front door to where a truck can park
- Narrow doorways, hallways and tight turns
- Elevators, and any building rules about using them
Do the same at the new home if you can get in.
Tell us the rest in a sentence or two
Some things don't show up in photos. Mention your moving date and how flexible it is, both addresses or ZIP codes, and whether you want packing or unpacking.
